How the current SSS contribution calculation works

SSS states that, effective January 1, 2025, the Social Security contribution is 15% of Monthly Salary Credit, split 10% employer and 5% employee, with the current MSC schedule extending from ₱5,000 to ₱35,000. Employees’ Compensation is an employer-only component. A payroll engine should map the employee’s actual remuneration to the official compensation range and MSC rather than simply taking 5% of whatever salary happens to be in a spreadsheet.

Always check contribution applicability before applying a minimum MSC. A zero-pay or special-status employee should not be forced into a minimum contribution merely because a formula uses a floor.

Area What to check
SSS Current schedule effective January 2025 uses 15% of MSC: 10% employer and 5% employee
SSS MSC Current minimum MSC ₱5,000 and maximum MSC ₱35,000
PhilHealth Current published schedule is 5% with ₱10,000 floor and ₱100,000 ceiling
Pag-IBIG Employee/employer membership savings use separate official rules and salary basis
Control Never apply a minimum contribution basis before checking applicability/status

How to verify the result before payroll approval

First, verify the employee’s status and the salary or compensation basis. Second, verify the statutory ruleset effective for the payroll period. Third, compare the calculated amount to the prior payroll and investigate material differences. Finally, preserve the approved payroll version so a future reviewer can reproduce the exact calculation even after rules change.

If you are processing multiple employees, the best workflow is not to repeat a public calculator dozens of times. Import the payroll file, apply the rules in bulk, flag anomalies and review only the exceptions. That is the conversion path behind these free tools.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this calculator for live payroll?

Use it as an estimate and verification tool. Live payroll needs employee status, period-specific rules, YTD tax, company policies, attendance events and professional validation of special cases.

How often are the rules checked?

The current site ruleset is marked with a verification date. Before production use, the system should monitor official SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, BIR, DOLE and NWPC sources and deploy changes only after regression testing.

Why does the calculator show a breakdown?

A payroll number should be explainable. Showing the salary basis, statutory component and tax path makes it easier to identify a wrong input or stale rule than a single black-box result.

Can employers calculate an entire payroll from Excel?

Yes. The Payroll Software Philippines workflow is designed to accept CSV/XLSX inputs, map employee fields, calculate the payroll, compare it with the existing payroll and route differences for review.

Where can I read the official rules?

Each calculator links to the relevant official government sources below. If a calculator and an official issuance conflict, use the official issuance and report the discrepancy so the ruleset can be corrected.
